Julius Baer’s Merrill Lynch buy closes in four jurisdictions
Twelve firms, including in Chile and Uruguay, have helped Switzerland’s leading private banking group Julius Baer acquire Merrill Lynch’s international wealth management businesses outside the US.
The deal closed in Chile, Uruguay, Switzerland and Monaco on 1 April. Julius Baer agreed to purchase the businesses for a total of US$880 million from parent company Bank of America in June last year.
The London and Frankfurt offices of Linklaters, Chile’s Carey, Uruguay’s Guyer & Regules and AMP Associates, Switzerland’s Lenz & Staehelin and Monacan firm DL Corporate & Regulatory advised Julius Baer.
Merrill Lynch turned to the London and Milan offices of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton LLP, Uruguay’s Posadas, Posadas & Vecino, Morales & Besa in Chile, Elvinger Hoss Prussen in Luxembourg and Monacan firms Gardetto Law Offices and Alfa Conseil.
Closing is still pending in some other jurisdictions.
