On November 30, 2024, Exempt Resolution No. 2,121 of 2024 of the Undersecretary of Telecommunications (hereinafter “Subtel”) was published in the Official Gazette, which amends Exempt Resolution No. 6,966 of 2009 of Subtel (technical standard of the Fixed Satellite Service).
The main aspects of the recent amendment include the following:
- Recognition of the operation of the fixed-satellite service (FSS) in the bands 71 - 76 GHz and 81 - 86 GHz (E Band) on a shared basis with the fixed service;
- In order to avoid interference with the ALMA radio telescope, or to avoid interference with other telecommunications services, the installation of gateways in the 71 - 76 GHz and 81 - 86 GHz bands will only be authorized from the Coquimbo Region to the south of the country;
- The use of Earth Stations in Motion (ESIM) communicating with space stations in the fixed-satellite service, duly registered with the ITU, and using the following frequency bands, shall be permitted:
- 10.70 - 11.7 GHz (space-Earth)
- 13.75 - 14.0 GHz (Earth - space)
- 11.7 - 12.7 GHz (space-Earth)
- 14.0 - 14.5 GHz (Earth - space)
- 17.3 - 17.8 GHz (Earth-space)
- 17.7 - 21.2 GHz (space-Earth)
- 27.0 - 31.0 GHz (Earth-to-space)
- Regulation of restrictions applicable to the ESIM service (operational and interference with other services).
