In January 2025, the Port of San Antonio opened the bidding process for the construction of the largest port infrastructure project in the history of the country.
The first project, worth USD1.5 billion, includes the construction of road and rail infrastructure, a breakwater and the dredging of the dock. The deadline for submitting bids is August 2025 and the contract is expected to be awarded during the first quarter of 2026.
The total investment is estimated at USD 4 billion and it will begin operating in 2036.
Registration in the prequalified registry is a prerequisite for submitting a bid. Companies wishing to register must demonstrate experience in large-scale maritime-port construction and financial solvency.
