BMA - Barbosa, Müssnich, Aragão in São Paulo, Carey in Santiago, CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP in Rio de Janeiro, CMS Grau in Lima, Gómez-Pinzón Abogados in Bogotá and Pinheiro Neto Advogados in São Paulo have advised the Latin American subsidiaries of information technology company HP on its US$1 billion global purchase of Samsung’s printer business.
The sprawling cross-border deal, which closed on 1 November, involved some 51 jurisdictions. CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP’ London office and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP in New York co-led the global deal for HP.
It is thought Samsung hired Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, but this could not be confirmed prior to publishing. Latin Lawyer was unable to identify further Latin American counsel in the deal.
Globally, the deal adds to HP’s intellectual property portfolio, with the IT company gaining more than 6,500 printing patents and over 1,000 researchers and engineer specialists.
Although the tie-up was announced in 2016, it only received approval from China’s Ministry of Commerce last month, enabling the deal to finally close.
